Focused on An Equanimous Balanced Life

Psychotherapist & Educator

Focus Life On You

As a Balanced Woman Coach, I am focused on helping women find themselves by identifying behaviors and habits that impede their overall success. Together with my clients, we examine persistent habits that do not serve them. Clients delve into their values, beliefs, and emotions, concentrating on areas where change is necessary for desired outcomes.

The Balanced Women approach advocates a holistic path to wellness through talk therapy, mindfulness, and self-reflection.

Benefits of Mindful Equanimity

“The Balanced Woman” embodies Mindful Equanimity. Studies have shown that mindful people are tuned to their bodies and the energy around them. Mindful awareness is noticing what is happening when it happens, being aware of what you are doing and its effects, and paying attention in a particular way in the present moment—awareness of your thoughts and feelings without focusing on them, instead focusing on the present and what is most important to you.

Equanimity has been linked to improved psychological well-being. It enables individuals to effectively navigate life’s ups and downs, reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. In professional settings, equanimity is associated with increased job satisfaction and performance as it cultivates the ability to stay composed and focused even in high-pressure scenarios. Equanimity improves interpersonal dynamics in relationships by fostering empathy, understanding, and conflict management.

About Me

I am Patricia Borgono, a mental health specialist and founder of Mindful Equanimity, The Balanced Woman. I hold degrees in Clinical Psychology and Education and have a broad background in the mental health field. I am also a psychology professor and author and a retired mental health psychotherapist. Today, I am focused on guiding women toward a balanced, fulfilled life. As a “Balanced Women’s Coach,” I offer insights on the importance of awareness and how and where to direct it. Such as how they feel and behave, which types of people and situations they attract or become attracted to, and the meaning you give to what happens to you and around you.

I provide self-help programs to promote self-acceptance, awareness, and positive change. In one-on-one sessions, I utilize talk therapy to help clients develop a healthier mindset, understand their emotional intelligence, and discover their inner strength by creating awareness.

In my 35+ years of teaching and providing therapy, I have become well-known for transferring information in a way that is easy to understand and learn. Moreover, I have learned to practice what I preach. I know that the more awareness I have, the more everything becomes my choice of how I live my life.

Optimal functioning is achievable, provided that you, the client, are committed to making a positive change. Are you prepared to begin?

No Special Passes in Life

I started life without particular advantages; similar to many, I was raised without unique privileges. I went to public schools, graduated, moved out at 17, pursued higher education, got married, raised four amazing children, and experienced the challenges of parenting teenagers. I served as a teacher in the public school system while furthering my education, striving to balance my career and personal life.

My Life was turned upside-down.

While I was no stranger to death, the years 2014 and 2015 brought profound sorrow with the loss of my grandson and, eight months later, the death of my cherished daughter. These events led to a fleeting crisis of faith, which I ultimately overcame.

Unexpected Life Events

During the COVID pandemic, my husband suffered two heart attacks; the first went unrecognized as such. Reluctant to visit the hospital for fear of contracting COVID, he avoided medical care. A month later, still unwell, he sought help at an urgent care and was swiftly taken to the hospital, where he flatlined and was brought back. His heart now functions at 48% due to muscle damage, but he remains alive and well (gratitude).

Learning to Heal

Throughout our sorrow, pain, and uncertain moments, we practiced mindful equanimity, a state of psychological balance and stability. Equanimity, in spiritual terms, means finding balance in a sacred way to protect the mind from emotional agitation and is the vehicle for cultivating self-compassion and acceptance. Our faith sustained us during those challenging times and is our pillar of strength.

We have gradually learned to live life differently without our beloved children. I am thankful for my husband’s recovery from his heart attacks and for the chance God has given us to spend additional years cherishing moments with our other children and grandchildren.

Grateful

We continued to balance work and personal life and saved to acquire a second home in the North Carolina mountains. This peaceful retreat is where we relish quiet moments with family and friends. We live each day with love, acceptance, and empathy for one another and all, releasing worries about the uncontrollable. Our guiding principle is to “Live each day as if it were our last.”

Coaching Style

My coaching approach is directive and proactive, tailored to meet my clients’ distinct needs. I aim to optimize the value they derive from our sessions and contribute to their success through close collaboration, sharp observation, insightful questioning, and active listening.

Who Do I Work With?

I specialize in coaching women to discover joy by transforming their mindset regarding their self-perception, view of others, and outlook on the world around them.

Although my coaching is primarily focused on women, occasionally, men who are familiar with my coaching style or are the partners of my clients inquire about working with me. I understand the importance of offering guidance and support to couples.

Monthly Readings

I educate monthly readers on the principles of positive psychology, behavior, spirituality, and maintaining a healthy mind and body. I guide women in balancing their lives and finding joy in their roles as beautiful individuals, mothers, professionals, comprehensive activity organizers, and active participants in life.

The Focus Is on Strengths.

The central topics are learning positive psychology, staying mentally healthy, and maintaining overall mental and physical well-being.

The emphasis is on altering self-perception and fostering positive self-reflection through positive psychological principles.

Remember your STRENGTHS. You are stronger than you could ever imagine. Embrace the positive.

Morning Mantra

“I will never forget how far I’ve come, everything I’ve gone through. All the times, I’ve pushed on even when I felt I couldn’t. All the mornings, I’ve gotten out of bed, no matter how hard it was. All the times I wanted to give up, but I got through another day. I must NEVER FORGET THE STRENGTH I’VE DEVELOPED ALONG THE WAY.” Author: Unknown

Forgive, Acceptance, and Compassion for Yourself and Others.

I understand that life can be challenging. However, no matter how much darkness may cloud your perspective, it’s possible to turn that darkness into light. Embracing hope, gratitude, acceptance, commitment, and compassion without casting judgment on yourself or others is crucial. Choose not to harbor anger and frustration. Refrain from letting disappointment, anger, and frustration consume your life. Instead, live with a profound sense of faith and a firm belief that your life’s pain, worries, uncertainties, and dissatisfaction will diminish. Remember, we cannot control pain and uncertainty.

“Forces beyond our control can take away everything we possess except one thing: our freedom to choose how we will respond to a situation.” Viktor Frankl

The Importance of Personal Strength

Life is filled with challenges that can lead to negative thoughts, unwanted emotions, and harmful behaviors. As Victor Frankel stated, “You are free to choose how you respond to every situation.”

Thus, embrace life wholeheartedly with gratitude, love, acceptance, and compassion towards yourself and others. Pursue a path of harmony and balance.
